A little learning

Today "Old Europe" and "New Europe"

Old Europe means powerful countries such as France and Germany. New Europe consists of powerful countries such as Britain and Spain. It is not a chronological distinction because as we all know none of these countries is really any older than the others. There must be some other difference, but what is it? A prize of two weeks Plenary Indulgences (in association with Mrs Haverty Enterprises™ - all rights reserved) to any reader who can explain why one set of countries is "old," while the other is "new."

Miss, Sir, Miss, Sir!

Is it that the countries in New Europe are not as powerful as the countries in Old Europe?

Disgusted

Why associate us with Europe? This is an island. Europe is a continent. Idiots! We are more American than European. It's not just a brief affair of a dotty old woman, with a toy boy, nor is it a betrayal of our European neighbours and family, as some seem to think. America is actually her own son, so it would be quite unthinkable for Britannia to be rogered by Uncle Sam. That is why we have people like the PM.

is it that the New Europe has got it's palms extended and is prepared to have its sons murdered in Iraq in exchange for the yankee dollar?

Bravo Chirac. His satirical dig against the boy Blair yesterday in Berlin was comical.

The history is clear. Old Europe is those countries that remained faithful to the Church of Rome. England abandoned Old Europe when that whoring infidel Henry VIII decided he need not be guided by God's representative on Earth, The Pope.

(Hallo to yer Mrs Haverty, sure we haven't seen you at St Jude's this long while.)

If I wanted to read Papist claptrap I'd go to the Vatican.

Pardon my laxity Your Eminence

I haven't been able to get out since I broke my foot on the computer. I hope the Polish girl I sent round is doing a good job on the dusting. Tell her to make sure to do under the bed. Don't be going easy on her just because she's only a slip of a thing. As soon as my foot is better I hop to pay you a flying visit. I have some duty free for you, your favourite Black Bush and 200 Rothmans. God bless for now.

Sure she's a fine lass, she's been handing me the Black Bush each evening and I have been absolving her.

Tis a wonderful religion that allows such a quid pro quo I think you'll agree. Why anyone should choose another is beyond me. Sin and repent, sin and repent, and the doors of Our Father's mansion are forever open to us.

Ah...here she is now. If you'll excuse me I will drink the Black Bush, or the Burning Bush as Agnes calls it.
